Driving the Ball
"Taking a light broom, learn how to sweep the ball as the broom ascends. Pull the handle, and sweep up."
Author: Jean Harris
Purpose: To learn how to make contact on the “upswing.
Level: Beginner
Timeline: Immediate results if done correctly.
Tip: Get on a slight uphill lie. Tilt shoulders and hips like the slope of the hill. Ball position is at the inside of the higher foot. The broom must go back low and shallow on the back swing. On the forward swing, pull the handle with your arms, not hands. Keep the broom end behind you as long as possible. The broom should make contact with the ground on the upswing.
