Dawne comes to Thorncreek Golf Club with 27 years experience in the golf industry and has been a class A member of the LPGA since 1996. Growing up in Canada, she was the first Canadian to receive a golf scholarship to the USA. She spent two years at the University of Hawaii before transferring to Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and graduated with a BS degree in Physical Education and health. In 1982 she became a touring professional and played for eight years which included the LPGA Tour, Asian Tour and European Tour. In 1989 she entered the teaching arena in Austin , Texas and worked for Golfsmith international before becoming the Head Instructor at Emerald Greens Golf Complex. In 1996, she spent the summers as the Head Golf Professional at Grandote Peaks in La Veta, Colorado and then assumed the General Manager role until 2007. “Management was a great learning experience but I am excited to be back doing what I love the most, which is teaching.”
In 2001 she was chosen as a Golf for Women magazine “Top 50 Teacher”. Dawne is also a six-time LPGA Central Section Professional of the Year award winner and was voted the National LPGA Professional of the Year in 2003. While working at Grandote Peaks, she taught all of the private, group and junior instruction and supervised all the tournaments including member and outside events. She still loves to play in professional events and is the 1998 Colorado Women’s Open champion.
Dawne’s company is called “Sensible Golf Concepts” and brings a very simple and fun approach to all of her lessons. She believes that understand not only what you are doing but WHY you are doing it is the key to quick swing improvement and enjoyment of the game for years to come!
